Bad News For The Southwest Companion Pass

Sometimes you win in this game and sometimes you lose. This is a loser. Southwest Airlines announced on January 1st 2017 that points transferred from hotel loyalty programs will no longer count towards a companion pass.
So that means if you were saving up those Marriott/SPG points to buy a Southwest vacation package that would also earn you a companion pass, you are now out of luck.
