New Offer On One Of My Favorite Flexible Point Cards

Capital One just rolled out a surprisingly strong bonus on the reliable Venture Rewards Credit Card, and it’s worth a closer look 💳✨. This has long been one of my favorite “workhorse” cards because it earns 2x points on every purchase, no categories to track. It pairs especially well with cards that only earn 1x on everyday spending, like non-bonus Chase purchases.

One of the biggest advantages of Capital One points is flexibility ✈️🌍. You can transfer them to more than a dozen airline partners, including favorites like Flying Blue (Air France & KLM) and Air Canada Aeroplan which are my favorite ways to get to Europe.

Prefer something simpler? You can also use points to “erase” travel purchases at a
1:1 value, which is an easy and effective option. I don’t recommend using points for a statement credit, though—the value drops to just 0.5 cents per point, which isn’t great.

There’s also a lesser-known Capital One trick I love: you can sometimes use points before the purchase is even paid off 😮🎉. Yes, really—and it’s as satisfying as it sounds.

Current Capital One Venture Bonus Offer

Here’s what’s included with the latest offer:

All in, this is a very solid offer on a card that’s easy to keep long term 👍. If you’re thinking about applying, you can use this link to see if you’re pre-approved—no impact on your credit score to check.

TSA PreCheck Just Got Better!

If you have TSA Precheck, security just got even easier! A new Touchless ID option is being offered to those who already have TSA Precheck. With this new option, you don't need to show your ID or boarding pass, security is done with facial recognition.

There may even be a separate line for those who have opted in.

So how does it work?

  • Enroll: Link your Known Traveler Number (KTN) with a participating airline and opt-in via their app, uploading your passport info. At this point, we are not sure if you have to opt in for each airline or just once.
  • Check-in: Look for the "TSA PreCheck Touchless ID" indicator on your mobile boarding pass
. The icon will not show up on a printed boarding pass.
  • At the checkpoint: Find the dedicated lane, show your mobile pass, and look into the camera for a facial scan.
  • Verification: The system compares your live photo to your passport photo. If it matches, you proceed without showing documents.

Currently, the program is available in 15 airports and the following airlines Delta,
United, Alaska, American and Southwest.
According to TSA, the program will expand to 65 airports in 2026.
Several credit cards offer a Global Entry credit which includes TSA Precheck.
My favorites are the Capital One Venture X and the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit cards.
Both cards are offering bonuses right now.

How You Can Use Your Sapphire Reserve Credits For A Vegas Holiday

Since the refresh of the Chase Sapphire Reserve last year, figuring out how to actually use the card’s growing list of credits has been top of mind. With such a high annual fee, you really don’t want those credits expiring unused—but how do you use them without spending a ton of extra cash?

I kept seeing Las Vegas mentioned as an easy win, so I decided to test it myself. My credits were expiring December 31, 2025, which gave me a perfect excuse to plan a quick midweek escape. I started researching what 48 hours in Las Vegas could realistically look like—and whether the math would actually work in my favor.

Below is exactly how I used the credits, and what the weekend ultimately cost. 🎰✈️

Chase Sapphire Reserve Credits (Current Lineup)

The Chase Sapphire Reserve currently includes the following credits:

  • $500 Edit Hotel Credit – $250 per two-night stay booked through the Chase Travel portal

  • $300 Restaurant Credit – valid through Chase Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Dining

  • $300 StubHub Credit – must be activated in your Chase account before purchase; split into two $150 credits (Jan–June and July–Dec)

  • $250 Chase Hotel Credit – valid on select hotel brands (Omni, IHG, Montage, Pendry, Virgin, Minor, Pan Pacific) booked through the portal; two-night stay required

  • $300 Annual Travel Credit – automatically applied to eligible travel purchases charged to the card

The credits I specifically needed to use before they expired were:

  • $150 Dining Credit

  • $250 Edit Hotel Credit

  • $150 StubHub Credit

Booking the Hotel 🏨

I logged into the Chase Travel portal and found a solid midweek deal at Park MGM: Tuesday–Thursday in mid-January for about $145 per night, plus a $100 property credit. After booking, the $250 Edit Hotel Credit posted the next day. The hotel was well located, room was large and beds were comfy. Added bonus, there is a tram that connects the hotel to the Bellagio saving your feet from more walking.

Total out-of-pocket for the hotel: $41

Using the StubHub Credit 🎭

Next stop: StubHub. I noticed The Wizard of Oz was playing at the Sphere—seeing a show there was already on my wish list. Midweek 5:00 pm tickets were about $189 per ticket including fees and taxes.

After activating the StubHub credit, I booked the tickets. The $150 credit posted immediately.

Total out-of-pocket for the show: $229

Dining with Chase Exclusive Tables 🍽️

I checked Chase Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables and snagged a reservation at Hell’s Kitchen. Dinner came to $175 including tax and tip, and the dining credit applied seamlessly. And by the way, dinner was delicious. Highly recommend!

Total out-of-pocket for dinner: $25

Property Credit Meals & Extras 🥢☕

We used the $100 Park MGM property credit for dinner at La La Noodle and breakfast at Primrose Café. The front desk confirmed the credit only covered food—not tax or tip, but was valid at any of the restaurants inside the hotel except Crack Shack.

We also split a sandwich from Eataly before the show.

Total out-of-pocket for additional food, tax and tip: $45

Since that used up the property credit, we picked up breakfast at the airport before our flight home in the Capital One Lounge which is a benefit of the Capital One Venture X credit card. Yum!

Capital One Lounge Las Vegas

Flights & Transportation 🚗

We flew to Las Vegas on Southwest using points and my Companion Pass. I did park my car at the San Diego airport for $36.

We skipped renting a car in Las Vegas and used Lyft instead. I applied the $10 monthly Chase Sapphire Reserve Lyft credit for the airport ride, and paid for the return trip.

Total out-of-pocket for parking and rides: $51
(If I still had my $300 travel credit available, this would have been fully covered.)

Beautiful light and fountain show in front of the Bellagio Hotel

Final Tally 💸

Was this a completely free Las Vegas trip? No—not technically. But for 48 hours in Vegas, a hotel stay, a Sphere show, multiple restaurant meals, and flights on points, we spent about $250 out of pocket total.

More importantly, I used credits that otherwise would have expired—and turned the Chase Sapphire Reserve “coupon book” into a genuinely fun, low-stress getaway. For me, that’s exactly how these credits should work. If you are interested in applying for the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred credit cards, use this link.

Last Chance To Get 100,000 Capital One Bonus Points

We just got word that this offer is ending January 5th! If you have been thinking about this one, don't wait.

🔥 Capital One Venture X has a whopping 100,000 point bonus offer! Wow! This is the highest offer we have seen for this card. The minimum spend is also high at $10,000, but you have 6 months to reach that spend.

Capital One Venture X Launches A 100,000 Bonus Offer

We love the Venture X because the annual fee is $395, but you get a $300 travel credit in the Capital One Travel Portal, 2x points on every purchase, $120 Global Entry credit, 10,000 bonus points on your anniversary valued at $100 and Priority Pass and Capital One lounge access.

What can you do with 100,000 Capital One points? Oh so much. You can read about how I have used Capital One points in the past here.

1. If you spend them in the portal or use them to erase travel purchases, they are worth $1,000 in travel

2. If you transfer the points to any of the dozen or so airlines and hotels,  they can be worth so much more. For example:

  • 18,750 points on Flying Blue (KLM and Air France) from the US to Europe in economy
  • 16,000 Iberia Avios from the US to Spain (transfer to British Airways or Finnair and then transfer to Iberia)

Capital One Venture X Launches A 100,000 Bonus Offer

That's just a start to the incredible travel savings! If this card is too hefty, the Capital One Venture card carries just a $95 annual fee and right now offers a bonus of 75,000 points for a $4,000 minimum spend.

We don't have an end date on this offer yet.

Your Ultimate 10-Day Portugal Adventure

Portugal truly has it all. Wine that'll make you reconsider your drinking habits (in the best way), beaches carved into dramatic cliffs, rivers winding through ancient valleys, narrow cobblestone streets that were definitely not designed for modern cars, and yes, that famous yellow tram. I traveled from the sun-soaked Algarve in the south all the way north to the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley and the vibrant streets of Porto, with plenty of stops in Lisbon and charming villages along the way.

This is my 10-day itinerary that actually worked – no rushing, no FOMO, just the right balance of sightseeing and soaking it all in. And if you want help booking this luxury trip for less? Reach out to me.

Getting There: The Flights ✈️

My family flew to Lisbon using points and miles, but here's where it got interesting: we were coming from four different cities, arriving and departing on different days, and arriving and departing on different flights to and from different destinations. Chaos, right?

Actually, it was both complex and simple at the same time. Simple because we were essentially four solo travelers with some flexibility, which makes award bookings much easier to piece together. Complex because keeping track of everyone's itinerary required a detailed spreadsheet and possibly too much coffee.

Want the full breakdown? You can read about exactly how I used points and miles for these flights here.

Days 1-3: Lisbon ☕

Lisbon hits different. Europe's second-oldest capital somehow manages to feel both ancient and alive, with its hilltop neighborhoods cascading down to the Tagus River. The tile-covered alleys of Alfama will have you stopping every five steps for photos, while the contemporary buzz keeps things fresh.

My top picks:

🚶‍♀️ Start with a FREE walking tour – I do this in every city I visit. You'll get the history, the layout, and those crucial local tips about where to actually eat (not the tourist traps).

🚋 Tram 28 – Hop on and let it rattle you through the historic districts. Pay on board, around €2.50. Yes, it's packed with tourists, but there's a reason for that.

Maritime Museum – Give yourself 2-3 hours here. Portugal's seafaring history is wild, and this place tells it well.

🏛️ Carmo Convent – The roofless ruins are hauntingly beautiful.

📚 Baixa district – Wander through and pop into Livraria Bertrand, the world's oldest bookstore. It still smells like old paper and possibilities.

🌅 Sunset viewpoints – Miradouro da Graça and Miradouro Senhora do Monte are where you want to be when the light turns golden.

🍴 Mercado da Ribeira – Food stalls galore when you need a quick bite.

The Pastéis de Nata situation 🥐

Look, you're going to eat approximately 47 of these custard tarts. Here's where to find the best ones:

  • Manteigaria
  • Fábrica de Nata
  • Pastelaria Santo António
  • Pastéis de Belém (the original from 1837 – yes, there will be a line)

Days 3-5: Sintra & Douro Valley 🏰🍷

Sintra is basically a fairy tale that wandered into Portugal and decided to stay. Castles everywhere you look.

Pro tip: Do NOT drive into the town center. Just don't. Park outside and walk in, or take the train from Lisbon as a day trip. If you must drive, grab a parking meter spot (download the parking app so you can add time remotely) and hoof it from there.

There are dozens of castles here. Take a FREE walking tour to see most from the outside, then pick your favorite 2-3 to explore inside. Pena Palace is the famous colorful one on the hill – you'll need to bus up from town to reach it.

🍰 Must-try: Stop at Periquita (on the corner in town center) for local pastries that'll ruin your diet plans.

Douro Valley 🌄

This is where Portugal gets serious about wine and scenery. Most people day-trip from Porto, but I'm begging you – stay overnight. The valley at sunset, with a glass of wine in hand? That's the moment you'll remember.

🏡 Where to stay: Book a vineyard like Quinta da Portela. We spent two nights here, and our host brought breakfast baskets to our villa each morning – fresh pastries, yogurt, eggs, coffee, homemade jams. After a private wine tasting on the terrace overlooking the vines, I never wanted to leave.

🍷
Wine tastings: We did two, both around €20 per person:

  • D'Origem – Started with an olive oil factory tour, ended with wine tasting on a deck with valley views that'll make your Instagram followers jealous
  • Second vineyard (closer to our quinta) – More commercial vibes but held in an atmospheric wine cellar at a gorgeous table

Also available: hiking, biking, and boat tours on the Douro River.

Days 5-7: Porto 🌉

Porto just works. The history, the architecture stacked on hillsides, the entire culture built around Port wine – it's got everything.

🚶 FREE walking tour alert – I love Guruwalk but there are lots of tours available. They focus on the old historic center, which is where Porto's soul lives. After the tour, head downhill to where the magic really happens.

The Riverfront 💙

Seven bridges span the Douro here, with water taxis zipping underneath. The views are absolutely breathtaking – you can walk for hours along the promenade, ducking into shops, grabbing petiscos (Portuguese tapas), and watching street performers.

🍷 Port cellars – All located across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia (thanks to old tax laws). Dozens to choose from, but we loved Ferreira, one of the oldest producers. The cave and cellar tour is fascinating, ending in a proper tasting room where we sampled ruby, white, and tawny ports. Tours run about €20 per person.

🏛️ Palácio da Bolsa – Get tickets (around €11) if you can. Even if you've seen your share of palaces, this one will drop your jaw. Trust me on this.

Days 8-10: Algarve 🏖️

Portugal's southern coast delivers on natural beauty, dramatic cliffs, and that perfect beach vacation energy.

Base yourself in Lagos so you're not packing and unpacking every day.

🚣 Benagil Caves – Absolutely unmissable. Choose between a boat tour or kayaking (heads up: the ocean can get choppy). The view from the water looking back at those golden cliffs is stunning. Plus, you'll hit a secret beach and explore a hidden tunnel.

Stack, Stack, Stack To Earn The Most Points And Miles

This is the best time of the year to earn so many extra points and miles! The secret is to
stack the offers when you are doing your holiday shopping online. A few things to keep in mind, you don't have to use the credit card that matches the shopping portal. For example, you can shop in the Southwest Shopping Portal, but pay with your Capital One credit card to get 2x points. Make sense?

I'll give you several examples that I've actually done in the past week.

Example #1
Southwest Shopping Portal is offering 1,000 extra points if you spend $200 in the portal. That's easy, let's stock up on pet food.

The Southwest shopping portal is also offering 2 points per $1 spent on purchases at Chewy. Awesome. Then we pay for our purchase with Paypal and our Chase FREEDOM FLEX credit card which nets us 5x points since this card has the 5x bonus rotating categories.
So this one pet food purchase should earn:
  • 1,000 bonus Southwest points
  • 400 Southwest points
  • 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards

Example #2
I was referred to Rakuten.com and bought flowers for a friend through 1-800flowers. I spent $65 on flowers, but got a FREE $50 for following the referral link plus 10% bonus cash back. Then I linked my Bilt account with my Rakuten account. Rakuten transferred more than 5,000 points into my Bilt account. You don't need a Bilt credit card, just create an account. Be sure your email is the same on both accounts. Woohoo! When I'm ready I can transfer the Bilt points to dozens of airlines or hotels like Air France, KLM, Southwest, Hyatt and more. On the first of the month, Bilt offers transfer bonuses too so I may be able to squeeze more value out of those points.

So this flower purchase earned:
  • $50 referral cash
  • 10% cash back
  • 5,500 Bilt points that I can transfer the points to dozens of airlines or hotels

Example #3

I wanted to buy a new Iphone, Capital One Shopping was offering 10% back on Apple purchases and I could pay for the phone with Paypal and my Chase FREEDOM FLEX credit card for 5x Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

So this phone purchase earned:

Holiday Shopping Portals Offer Big Bonuses

It's almost that time of the year again! The holidays. Whether you give big gifts or small gifts or you plan to gift to charity, you can earn extra points for your online purchases.

Holiday Shopping Portals Offer Big Bonuses

How you ask? By taking that one extra step and making your purchase through a shopping portal. Most of the airlines, some credit cards and even a few hotel chains have shopping portals.

Already we are seeing some bonus offers!
  • Alaska - Earn 300 bonus points when you spend $100, 750 when you spend $350 or 1,500 when you spend $650.
  • American - Earn 500 bonus miles for spending $200, 1,500 for $700 or 4,000 for $1,600 in total purchases. This is big because it doesn't have to be one purchase, it can be multiple purchases from different stores.
  • Delta - Earn 400 bonus miles for spending $200, 1,000 bonus miles for $500 or 4,000 for spending $1,500.
  • Southwest - Earn 400 bonus points when you spend $100, 1,600 when you spend $400 or 4,000 for spending $900.
  • United - Earn 500 bonus miles when you spend $125, 2,000 bonus miles when you spend $500 or 5,000 for $1,100.
These are just some examples, but your first step before making any online purchase is to check cashbackmonitor.com for the specific store. From there, you can see if there is an elevated offer for that store and then you can see if there is a bonus offer being offered by the platform.

Holiday Shopping Portals Offer Big Bonuses

The other thing to take into consideration is your travel strategy. Are you trying to collect points or miles on a certain airline or hotel? If so, then target that shopping portal. Flying Blue often has huge bonuses!

Another interesting fun fact is that you don't have to use the credit card associated with that shopping portal. For example if you use the Chase Shopping Portal to earn 3x points at Chewy.com, you could use your Capital One Venture X credit card to pay for the purchase to earn 2x points.
We call this strategy "stacking". I've seen some people double and even triple stack!
Let me know the creative stacking you come up with.

How My Client Scored a FREE Mediterranean Cruise PLUS Used Points for Extras 🚢

Picture this: You've just won a Mediterranean cruise through a work promotion, and you're wondering if you can make it even better without spending a dime. That's exactly what happened to one of my clients, and the answer might surprise you!

The Power Play: Using Points as Statement Credits ✨

My client had already hit the jackpot with her free cruise and flights (earned through reaching her sales goals), but she wanted to know if her credit card points could cover the drink package and shore excursions.

Here's the game-changer: Most flexible points programs let you use points as statement credits to offset ANY purchase – not just traditional travel bookings.

Which Cards Offer Statement Credit Options?

  • Capital One: Famous for their "Purchase Eraser" feature
  • Chase: Through their "Pay Yourself Back" option
  • American Express: Via statement credit redemptions
  • Citi: Through their rewards portal

Real Results: 290,000 Points = Major Savings 💳

When my client logged into her Chase Sapphire Preferred account (she hadn't checked in ages!), she discovered 290,000 points just sitting there. Here's how she used them:

  • Drink package: 30,000 points
  • Shore excursions: Several thousand additional points
  • Leftover balance: Saved for her upcoming Alaska adventure

Is This the "Best" Use of Points?

Let's be real – you might not get maximum value compared to transferring points to airline partners. But sometimes convenience and cash flow matter more than squeezing every penny of value from your rewards.

The bottom line: If using points means you can enjoy your vacation worry-free without touching your bank account, that's a win in my book.

How to Redeem Points as Statement Credits

The process is surprisingly simple:

  1. Log into your credit card account
  2. Navigate to "Redeem Rewards" or "Pay Yourself Back"
  3. Select the charges you want to cover
  4. Confirm your redemption (usually at 1:1 value)

Pro tip: Keep an eye out for bonus categories that might offer better redemption rates during special promotions!

The Takeaway

Don't let your hard-earned points collect digital dust. Whether you're covering cruise extras, hotel incidentals, or any other travel expenses, your flexible points can work harder for you than you might think.

Have you discovered a stash of forgotten points in your account? Share your best redemption wins in the comments below! 👇

If you need more points, the Chase Sapphire Preferred has a $95 annual fee and right now is offering a 75,000 bonus point offer for a $5,000 minimum spend.
